YuMeiRen (2005)

The title of the piece YuMeiRen , was taken from a traditional Chinese piece for zither. A short extract from the pentatonic melody of the zither piece forms the basis for the piece.

Trumpet and percussion repeated ly play a short phrase from the Chinese original. The piece is based upon the idea of the se modern instruments attempting to imitate and contrast their articulation and playing techniques to the sound of the zither.  The central idea of this piece is to use the articulation and performance techniques of these modern instruments to both compliment and contrast the sound of the Zither.



Yu-Ching Chiang was born in 1974 in Taipai, Taiwan. From 1992 until 1996 she studied Piano at the Tung-Hai University. Since 1999 she has studied composition at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany, with Cornelius Schwehr and Mathias Spahlinger.
