Performance instructions: Perform this movement as soft as possible, but with great intensity.   All entries must be very gentle. Notes in the trumpet part that are connected by dotted slurs may be joined by means of circular breathing.   Each bar is held for as long as possible, thereby taking into account the trumpet player's available amount of breathe necessary to perform connected notes in consecutive bars.  


Jan-Bas Bollen is a Dutch composer and sound artist who performs his own works as well as writing for leading European ensembles. His first studies in composition were with Joep Straesser in 1987 at the School of the Arts, Utrecht. Further studies in composition followed from 1989-93 at the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag with Theo Loevendie, Gilius van Bergeijk and Klaas de Vries.
